Poole Harbour Trails is a small community group promoting Public Right of Ways (ROWs) in the Poole Harbour ⁄ Purbeck area. Until now, this promotional work has relied on donations received from group members with occasional public donations received at local events. This is no longer sustainable. In 2023, the group supported development of the new Cordite Way in Holton Heath. Phase 1 Cordite Way work has involved volunteers spending over 1000 hours clearing undergrowth to establish a new ROW to two viewpoints. Jade-Aden sponsored the removal of thick mulch from the Cinder Path section, while a grant from Wareham St Martin Council’s Solar Community Fund sponsored drainage work. The grant included the production of three information boards describing the Cordite Way, its heritage and what can be seen, plus the purchase of a few benches. To complete Phase 1, these will be installed before the planned official opening during 2025. Phase 2 of the Cordite Way cannot proceed until the missing mainline bridge is constructed to enable us to reach the Cordite Way’s final scenic section to Rockley Jetty. Discussions with Network Rail and key stakeholders have commenced. As Phase 1 of the Cordite Way path is almost complete, this page will provide details of our fundraising activities commencing soon. We are hopeful that funds will be raised from grants, sponsorship and match funding, but a significant proportion will be needed from public donations. The target to raise will be known once the bridge design, sufficient for all users including cyclists, has been agreed. Your donations will be vital to support this major project. More information will be provided soon on how you can help by donating to this appeal or by joining our volunteers. |
